Final Blog/ Reflection

I was inspired to create this project because as I graduate Highschool and start to study nursing in college, I wanted some experience in the medical field. This was a great way to look at emergency response, as well as in patient and out patient medicine. I believe this project went very well for me because it showed me a lot about my interests. It was so neat to be in the hospital setting, as well as on the fire truck and ambulance. Through this project, I was able to learn more about myself and my passions. I learned on my project that my reality is very different than others. If possible, Hawken School should encourage others to explore fields that they will be pursuing later in life because it can draw in more passion. I am not sure if Hawken would be able to do anything with a service day with my mentors because of the hospital setting and limited space. When giving advice to rising juniors/senior, I would recommend that they find something they are passionate about and use the time they are given to their advantage. Overall, my most important takeaway was how much first responders give to their community, and how much nurses and doctors care about their patients and want what's best for them. Additionally, I know that I am ready to learn more about nursing. When I left after observing the nurses at the Cleveland clinic in the OB/GYN, all I wanted to do was go back and learn more. I am so grateful for the experience Kevin Shea gave me at the fire station, Dr. Ben Boswell gave me at the sports medicine clinic, and Celeste Shea gave me at the OB/GYN department of the Cleveland clinic. It truly was a good way to spend my time and engage with my community.
